Congratulations to Dr. Marcus Gulley, Salemtowne resident, who was honored with a Distinguished Faculty Award from the Medical Center at Bowman Gray. He was also recently named the Mental Health Professional of the Year by the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI). Dr. Gulley was on the faculty of the Department of Psychiatry at Bowman Gray School of Medicine for 41 years, then for another 14 years semi-retired and part time. As associate professor emeritus, he continues to see patients through the Homeless Opportunities and Treatment (HOT) Project. The HOT Project, offered through Wake Forest Baptist’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine and community partner organizations, provides free behavioral health care to the area’s homeless population. Gulley is the first recipient of the NAMI award.
