Neighborhood Stories
At Salemtowne, every face in every space is filled with unique
life experiences. Here are just a few of the fun and interesting
people in our neighborhood:
L.L. describes herself as being a "life-long
learner;" and according to her new neighbors, she is just as
lively as her name. She moved to Salemtowne from West Virginia
to be close to her two daughters.
They are at the picnic. They are walking
miles around our campus. They are exercising with Dianne. They
are in the pool swimming. S. and J. are everywhere! They
have always been community oriented and most recently have been
associated with Crisis Control, the Shepherd's Center and their
home church at Kernersville Moravian.
V.L. is from Winston-Salem and has been
widowed for 37 years. Her great pleasure was working in her yard.
Even though her sister had already moved to Salemtowne, she couldn't
be persuaded until she no longer could use her chain saw!
G.Y. was Salemtowne's youngest resident
when she moved in this year. Talk to her a while and you will
discover she's had a lot of "times of her life." With a love
for the arts which included working for the National Endowment
for the Arts, her entire professional career seems to have been
a series of "new beginnings." Now she plays flute in the
Beginners Moravian Band, which rehearses Tuesday nights.
When N. asked J. to marry him, he
skipped all the small stuff and went straight for the gold. "We
were lucky that every family approved of our getting married,"
says J…"yes, but we did a lot of PR just to make sure." In
their first marriages, they enjoyed with their spouses the full,
rewarding friendship of couples whose lives intertwine with family
and friends through the years. Their new relationship as man
and wife includes thanksgiving for the past and joy of new beginnings
and an expanded family. |
